Vidic turns attention to Toon

Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic has called for an immediate response after their treble hopes were dashed.

A goal from Yaya Toure in the 52nd minute at Wembley after a mistake by Michael Carrick was enough to send Manchester City through to the FA Cup final.

United finished the game with 10 men after veteran midfielder Paul Scholes was sent off for a lunge on Pablo Zabaleta.

Yet it might have been different had striker Dimitar Berbatov, replacing the suspended Wayne Rooney, converted two gilt-edge chances in the first half.

Now Vidic wants the team to bounce back at Newcastle on Tuesday as they aim to reclaim the Barclays Premier League title, not to mention winning the Champions League.

The Serbia defender said: "We lost a moment's concentration and conceded a goal in the process. Then when you go down to 10 men it difficult to get many chances against City.

"In the first half we played some good football. We had two or three chances but didn't take them.

"Then in the second half when we lost a goal, it was difficult to take. Obviously when you are playing with 10 men you are chasing the game.

"We have to think about the next game against Newcastle especially after losing the semi-final to City. It will be a very important game for us.

"We still have many games to play. Obviously the next one is the most important one. We have to play the best we can and win that game."

City striker Mario Balotelli unwisely rejoiced in front of the United fans at the final whistle, triggering a shoving match with Anderson and an angry reaction from Rio Ferdinand - who also squared up to City coach David Platt.

On the incident, Vidic added: "I just saw Balotelli do something, I am not sure. I was more disappointed about the result than anything else."
