Obertan makes United debut

Gabriel Obertan finally made his Manchester United debut on Monday night after playing 45 minutes of a reserve team game against Oldham Athletic.

Obertan, 20, joined United on a three-year contract in a £3million deal from Bordeaux in the summer, but was prevented from making his bow for his new club by a back injury.

The France Under-21 international completed the first 45 minutes of a 3-0 Manchester Senior Cup win over the Latics at Hyde.

"The French winger caught the eye with his sleight of foot and devastating speed," claimed a report on the club's official website.

Meanwhile, Brazilian full-back Rafael da Silva also returned from injury in the comfortable win.

Rafael has been sidelined since undergoing shoulder surgery in the summer.

Both players will now be hoping to be named in the first-team squad for the Carling Cup trip to Barnsley on October 27.
